Trump, is He Forcing ObamaCare Vote?
Trump, is he playing fair with the Republicans in order to pass the ObamaCare bill on Thursday? Today he delivered a message to Republicans warning members that they could lose their seat if they don’t back the bill. After the meeting he said, “There are going to be adjustments made, but I think we’ll get the vote Thursday.”
Trump Meets for 40 Minutes with Republicans
During the 40-minute meeting the president did not take any questions; however, he did argue that many of the members were elected on a promise to repeal and replace the 2010 health care law. He told them, “I honestly think many of you will lose your seats in 2018 if you don’t get this.
House Speaker Paul Ryan said, following the meeting, “We were honored to welcome president. He was here to close the deal.”
Trump singled out Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), the chairman of the hard-line House Freedom Caucus, in front of colleagues. Trump said, “I’m gonna come after you, but I know I won’t have to, because I know you’ll vote ‘yes.'” Meadows, along with 29 other members of the House Freedom Caucus, stayed firmly on the fence despite Trump’s ‘warning.’ Meadows later said that conservative holdouts will continue to press for a tougher package. He said, “I’m still a ‘no.’ I’ve had no indication that any of my Freedom Caucus colleagues have switched their votes.”
