Trump Lawyer Says the President is Not Under Investigation

Trump Lawyer Contradicts the President

Trump lawyer says the president is not under investigation; however, the president recently tweeted, “I am being investigated for firing FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director! Witch Hunt. So, is he, or isn’t he? The tweet is a result of a recent Washington Post story that five unnamed sources made the accusation although their names were never published. One of Trump’s attorneys, Jay Sekulow, said the Twitter Tweet, from Trump, says the message only appeared to confirm the investigation, because of the character limit on Twitter. Sekulow said, “There’s a limitation on Twitter, as we all know. The President’s response was as it related to the Washington Post report. He cannot in a Twitter statement include all of that in there…That’s it. Simple explanation.”

No Information Received from Special Counsel

Sekulow, appearing on “Face the Nation” yesterday, said, “the president has not been and is not under investigation.” He insisted that the administration had received no information from the special counsel’s office to think otherwise. On “State of the Union” he said, “The president is not a subject or target of an investigation.” On a third TV program, “Fox News Sunday,” the attorney said there had been “no notification of an investigation” of the president by Mr. Mueller. On another program he said, “I can’t imagine a scenario where the president would not be aware of it.”

Some officials are looking at evidence that special counsel Mueller’s actions grew last week when he requested interviews with three high-ranking current or former intelligent officials. Reports have raised questions about whether Trump requested their help in trying to get James B. Comey, the the FBI Director, to end an investigation into the president’s former national security adviser, Michael T. Flynn.
