Trump Jr. June Meeting Offers Another Shift

Trump Jr. Meeting Had Others Present

Trump Jr. specifics, in June meeting, change once again. Now a Russian-American lobbyist, who served in the Soviet military, says he attended the meeting. Rinat Akhmetshin confirmed his participation to The Associated Press today. It has been reported that the lobbyist has ties to Russian intelligence agencies, although he personally dismisses this as a “smear campaign.” He did admit to the AP that he served in the Soviet military in a unit that was part counterintelligence but was never formally trained as a spy.

Meeting was to Help the Republican’s WH Campaign

The original explanation for the meeting was that it was a Russian effort to help the Republican’s White House campaign. However, new questions have been raised wondering if the campaign coordinated with the Russian government, during the election, which has resulted in the focus of federal and congressional investigations.

Trump Jr. posted emails this week that a music publicist who arranged the meeting said a Russian lawyer wanted to pass on negative information about Democrat Hillary Clinton. He said the discussion was part of a Russian government effort to help the GOP candidate. While Trump Jr. admitted that Natalia Veselnitskaya, the Russian attorney, was in the meeting he did not disclose the presence of Akhmetshin.

Akhmetshin said the Russian attorney brought a plastic folder with her to the meeting. It contained documents that detailed what she believed was the flow of illicit funds to the Democratic National Committee (DNC). She presented the contents of the documents to the Trump associates and suggested that making the information public could help the Trump campaign. Akhmetshin remembered her saying, “This could be a good issue to expose how the DNC is accepting bad money.”

Trump Jr. asked the attorney if she had all the evidence to support her claims. The attorney told him the Trump campaign would need to research it more. Following this Trump Jr. lost interest according to Akhmetshin. He said, “They couldn’t wait for the meeting to end. He said he does not know if the documents were provided by the Russian government. He said he thinks she left the materials with the Trump associates. However, it was unclear if she handed the documents to anyone in the room or simply left them behind.

Don’t you wonder who else might have been at this meeting?
