President Trump vs Attorney General Sessions

President Trump vs Jeff Sessions

President Trump vs the Attorney General, and his negative comments about Jeff Sessions, seem to be an attempt for the president to get the AG to resign. However, people close to Sessions, said the president’s comments are said to be getting under Sessions skin but the attacks have not pushed him toward offering his resignation. The Daily Beast reported today that a person close to Sessions said, “Sessions is totally pi–ed off about it. It’s beyond insane. It’s cruel and it’s insane and it’s stupid.”

Trump Says AG Should not Have Recused Himself

Last week President Trump told the New York Times, during an interview, “Sessions should have never recused himself, and if he was going to recuse himself, he should have told me before he took the job and I would have picked somebody else.” Trump said the move was “very unfair to the president.” The president then said that by Sessions removing himself from matters involving Russia paved the way for a special prosecutor appointment. Trump has also put down Sessions for not looking into “Crooked Hillary’s crimes & Russia relations?” He also said that the AG has taken a “VERY weak position on Hillary Clinton crimes (where are E-mails & DNC server) & Intel leakers!”

However, despite President Trump’s discontent with his AG a number of colleagues are stepping up to defend him. Sen. Lindsey Graham, noting Sessions served in the Senate for 20 years, said, “one of the most decent people I’ve ever met in my political life…I’ve never once doubted his integrity or sense of fair play.”

Sen. Richard Shelby, who worked alongside Sessions for decades, said he believed the AG was a “man of integrity, loyalty, and extraordinary character and that the attorney general had my deep respect and unwavering support.”

Texas Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn said, “I know Jeff Sessions well, and he’s a good and honorable man and I think he’s doing what he believes he’s obligated to do under the rules that govern attorney generals…I think Jeff Sessions did the right thing.”

If Sessions doesn’t resign will President Trump fire him?
