Mexican president cancels meeting with President Donald Trump for next week. The cancellation came following Trump’s tweet that the only way the presidents will talk is if there is payment agreed on the wall. This follows Wednesday’s signing, by Trump, of an executive order calling for construction of a border wall. Enrique Pena Nieto, president of Mexico, said his country will not pay for the wall.
Mexican President Cancels Meeting About “Wall”
Nieto has been under pressure from his outraged Mexican citizens. They want him to stand up to Trump. Nieto tweeted this today, “This morning we have informed the White House that I will not attend the meeting scheduled for next Tuesday with the @POTUS.” This tweet came following Mexicans lashing out at the US President calling Trump a bully and self-indulgent and vowing not to be pushed around by him.”
Today Trump tweeted accusing Mexico of unfair trade with the United States and told Pena Nieto to stay home if Mexico won’t pay to build a wall and other barriers along the full 2000-mile border between the two countries, a massive project estimated to cost billions.
Nieto responded, “I regret and reject the decision of the U.S. to build the wall. Mexico reaffirms its friendship with the people of the United States and its willingness to reach agreements with its government.”
