Gaga, Bieber, Drake and More to Perform at the AMAs Tonight


American Music Awards Will be Presented Tonight

The Microsoft Theater, in Los Angeles will host the American Music Awards tonight (8 pm EST). This year the hosts will be model Gigi Hadid and comedian and actor Jay Pharaoh. The list of performers includes Sting, Shakira, Lady Gaga, Green Day, Bruno Mars, Justin Bieber, Drake and many others. There is some talk that Chris Brown may make a surprise appearance.


Tonights winners will be selected by the fans. They have voted via the AMAs website. The program is put together by Dick Clark Productions. The iconic radio and television personality Dick Clark, created the awards show in 1973. To date Michael Jackson has won the most AMAs with 23 awards. He was also awarded “Artist of the Century.” Alabama and Whitney Houston are also big award winners.

“Artist of the Year,” one of the ultimate awards, has five contenders: Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Rihanna and Carrie Underwood. Another popular category is “New Artist of the Year,” with contenders Alessia Cara, The Chainsmokers, DNCE, Shawn Mendes, and Zayn. Various well-known celebrities will present the awards in 28 categories.

The 44th AMAs will see the leader of the pack, Drake, with a total of 13 nominations, perform on stage. Behind him follows Rihanna with seven nominations and Adele and Justin Bieber each with five nominations.
