Eight Illegals Die in Non-Airconditioned Truck

Eight Illegals Die After Arriving in Texas

Eight illegals from Mexico and Central America, attempting to cross into the United States, to search for a better life, are dead. Twenty others have serious injuries. Dozens of other people were found inside. Others made it out of the truck alive after suffering inside a trailer in 100-plus degree heat. Richard Durbin, the US attorney for the western district of Texas, described the immigrants as victims of “ruthless human smugglers indifferent to the well-being of their fragile cargo.” He added that the heat was “punishing” at this time of year. These people were helpless in the hands of their transporters. Imagine their suffering in a stifling trailer in 100-plus degree heat.”

The truck was parked in San Antonio outside a Walmart store. Investigators assume this was a pre-desiginated location as surveillance footage showed several vehicles had come to the car park to pick up travelers who had made it out of the truck alive.

San Antonio fire chief Charles Hood said, “They were very hot to the touch. So these people were in this trailer without any signs of any type of water. It was a mass casuality situation for us.

San Antonio is a few hours’ drive from the border with Mexico’s Nuevo Leon state. Illegal immigration into the US is a daily occurrence. Scores of people have died in recent years while trying to make the dangerous journey.

The driver of the truck has been arrested and will be charged.
