Death of Cuba Gooding Sr. Awaiting Autopsy

Death of Cuba Gooding Sr. is under investigation after his body was found inside his car parked on Ventura Blvd in Woodland Hills on Thursday. It was reported that alcohol and drug paraphernalia were found inside his silver Jaguar. Police suspect he died of a drug overdose. The father of actor Cuba Gooding Jr. he was the lead singer of the ’70’s soul group “The Main Ingredient.” The group ‘borrowed’ their name from the slogan found on the back of a Coca Cola bottle. They had the major hit song, Everybody Plays The Fool. The group also had a second million-selling hit, Just Don’t Want To Be Lonely.

Gooding Survived by Family Members and Fans


Gooding is survived by his wife, the singer Shirley Gooding (born Sullivan). Together they had four children: Academy award-winning actor Cuba Gooding Jr., Omar Gooding, April Gooding, and musician Tommy Gooding. The couple separated in 1974. Twenty-one years later they remarried and have remained together through the years.

The singer had been seen earlier in the day, in a nearby neighborhood, as he rubbed his brow, according to a witness. Later, after his body was discovered, liquor bottles were placed atop his automobile. unidentified drug paraphernalia was also removed from his car. Police are waiting autopsy results before giving an official cause of death. Funeral services are pending.
