Yan Cheng Found Dead
Yan Chengs’ father was put in quarantine two weeks ago, in Hubei province after doctors suspected he had been exposed to the coronavirus. He was the sole caretaker for his 16-year-old son. One week ago, Yan Cheng was found dead in his bed. The boy, suffering from cerebral palsy, was unable to care for himself. After his father went into quarantine, the boy was fed only twice during the week.
Father Asked For Help For His Son
Yan Cheng’s family lives in China’s central Hubei province. This is the epicenter of the deadly virus outbreak. Local media said the boys’ father posted on the Chinese social media Weibo that his son had been left alone, and he did not have any food or water. He appealed for help for his son. The father had asked his relatives, village officials, and village doctors to care for his son. The father, Yan Xiaowen, 49, said his son “cannot move his body, he cannot speak or look after himself. He has already been at home by himself for six days, with nobody to bathe him or change his clothes and nothing to eat or drink.”
Investigation Has Been Opened
Government officials in the province have opened an investigation into the death of the boy. So far the secretary of the local Communist Party and the mayor in Huajiahe town have been removed from their positions after the information came to light. The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection wrote, “The local government was not practical and realistic when carrying out work and failed to perform its duty.” A spokesperson for the Huahe Township said, “there is no way we could have left a boy with cerebral palsy at home with nobody looking after him.” If this is the case, then why did the boy die?
