USS Carl Vinson Within Striking Distance of North Korea
The USS Carl Vinson is now within striking distance of North Korea. The arrival comes just when Kim Jong-un launched another ballistic missile. Although the missile failed once again it still showed Kim’s determination. The last few days the Vinson has been holding joint drills with Japan’s naval forces off the country’s coast. The Vinson has held joint exercises with South Korean warships. It remains on standby ready, if ordered, to attack the isolated state of North Korea.
USS Carl Vinson Carries Almost 100 Aircraft
The Vinson is a US nuclear-powered strike group which carries nearly 100 aircraft. It is also decked with guided-missile destroyers and cruisers ready to strike should an ICMB be fired. North Korea has already said it is ready to sink a US aircraft carrier in order to demonstrate its military might. President Donald Trump has ordered the USS Carl Vinson to sail to the area where it is presently located in response to rising tension over the North’s nuclear and missile tests as well as its threats to attack the US and its Asian allies.
In reaction to the president’s remark, the Rodong Sinmun, the newspaper of the North’s ruling Workers’ Party, said in a commentary, “Our revolutionary forces are combat-ready to sink a US nuclear powered aircraft carrier with a single strike.” The paper compared the aircraft carrier to a “gross animal” and said a strike on it would be “an actual example to show our military force.”
However, it has been reported that the hermit country is fearing the powerful Vinson despite the state media claims the communist nation’s troops are ready to sink the aircraft carrier with a single strike.
The US, North Korea, Russia, China, South Korea and other countries now sit in wait of the next action each country may or may not take. Tension is building much like a volcano ready to erupt!
