UK Offers BAFTA Awards Attended By Kate and William
The UK offers BAFTA Awards Sunday while organizers worried that Kate Middleton might overshadow the nominees and winners. No doubt they were the two undisputed stars of the night as they were the last to arrive at the venue. This is the first time they have attended the awards ceremony together. Prince William has been president of BAFTA since February 2010.
Grammy’s are Awarded Across the Pond
The BAFTA awards were the big event of the day in the UK; however, across the pond, in Los Angeles, CA at The Staples Center, hundreds of celebrities gathered to participate in the 59th annual Grammy Awards.Host James Corden offered his first hosting of the show introducing such performers as Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood, Adele, Beyonce, Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga and a number of others.
Big tributes were offered to Prince and the Bee Gees. The memoriam included such stars as George Michael and Davie Bowie. One of the most exciting presentations was for Album of the Year. Predictions were that Beyonce or Adele would take the award. When all was said and done Adele walked off with one of her five Grammy’s. Adele also won the Record of the Year award, again, for her song “Hello.”
Back to the UK – there’s no doubt that Kate’s appearance at the BAFTA awards helped boost the popularity of the show as it went up against the Grammy’s. The BAFTA’s hosted by Stephen Fry, saw “La La Land” win the Best Film while Emma Stone took home the Best Actress Award. The Outstanding British Film award went to “I, Daniel Blake.”
One of the brightest moments of the program came as Prince William presented The Fellowship award to Mel Brooks. Brooks commented, “I think BAFTA has made unerringly good choices tonight, especially me. I want to thank Harvey Weinstein for having nothing to do with this award. I want to apologize to the Duke and the Duchess and Prince Philip for the American Revolution. We were young.”
