Trump tweets that we will build the wall to separate the US from Mexico. He planned to take executive action today directing federal resources toward building the border wall. Initially the wall will be paid for by US taxpayers. However, the president says that Mexico will pay for the wall way or another.
Other Precautions Will be Offered
Trump has directed the Department of Homeland Security to begin construction of the border wall within the next few months. He also wants steps to be taken to repair existing areas of fencing along the frontier between the US and Mexico. There is also a mandate to increase staff at Customers and Border protection by 5,000 and alleviate the flood of immigrants fleeing violence in Central America.
The great, great wall, as Trump nicknamed it, has a cost estimate of between eight and 12 billion dollars. It is proposed to be made of precast concrete. It is suggested the wall will rise 35 to 40 feet, 50 feet, or higher. The US-Mexico border stretches nearly 2,000 miles. Half of it runs along the Colorado River and Rio Grande. Trump said the wall doesn’t need to run the nearly 2,000 miles, but only half, because of the natural barriers.
Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto has said there’s “no way” his country would pay for the wall. Trump, on the other hand, insists Mexico will pay for the wall in “one way or another.”
