Top executives and anchors from five major TV networks met with President-elect Donald Trump yesterday afternoon. The meeting took place at Trump Tower in New York City. Although this was an “off-the-record” meeting, several of those in attendance revealed some of what went on. Apparently Trump used the opportunity to admonish the media for what he said was unfair coverage of him.
The president-elect, according to one attendee, does want to change his relationship with the press. He took a number of questions about policy as well as his intentions in office. Apparently he spent some time striking out at some of the media at the meeting. One of the recipients was Jeff Zucker who was head of NBC during the Apprentice franchise on the network. He then turned his attention to NBC, saying it was the worse. He criticized the reporters.
It was reported that Trump also criticized a reporter, who was in the meeting, who had moderated a debate. Although it was not specified, it is believed to be either Martha Raddadt, from ABC, or NBC’s Lester Holt.
Another unnamed attendee said that Trump “exploded.” A source for the New York Post said, “Trump kept saying, we’re in a room of liars and deceitful dishonest media who got it all wrong. He addressed everyone in the room calling the media dishonest, deceitful liars.” He said that everyone at CNN was a liar, and CNN was a network of liars.
Through it all, the president-elect indicated he wants to work with the media.
