Russia Reacts to Bombings, Putin Not Happy
Russia reacts to bombings on Syria and President Vladimir Putin is not a happy camper. What appeared to many Americans as a future, stronger relationship between Russia and the US, was also probably destroyed following the bombings. The 59 cruise missiles, fired at the Syrian military base, were deployed as it is believed to have been the launching site for planes that were responsible for the chemical weapons
Was This a Fatal Blow to the Trump-Putin Bromance?
Although it is known that the Trump-Putin bromance was tomahawked, following the bombings, it is not known if it was a fatal blow. Putin called the attack a “violation of international law” and an “attack on a sovereign state.”
Russia was hoping for a détente with Trump. However, yesterday the Russia destroyed the 2015 military operations agreement it has with the US according to The Washington Post. The agreement gave both sides an open line of communication regarding air operations. Without the agreement there is a possibility of military conflict in a worst-case scenario.
Aside from destroying the agreement a Russian frigate armed with cruise missiles was sent to the Mediterranean in an apparent show of force following the first direct military strike by the US against the Syrian regime. Russia has also pledged to help strengthen Syria’s air defenses after the US strike on the airbase in western Syria.
