Putin’s Annual News Conference
Russian President Vladimir Putin’s Annual News Conference saw the man offering some tough talk. He said, “We are stronger than any potential aggressor.” He did make it clear that he does not see the United States as a potential aggressor. He also realizes the US has the most powerful military in the world. He said, “an aggressor is someone who can potentially attack the Russian Federation. So we are stronger than any potential aggressor,” he told the gathered journalists.
Putin’s Annual News Conference Praised Trump
During Putin’s annual news conference he praised US President-elect Donald Trump. He said that Trump has his finger on the pulse of US society. Putin said, “Trump understood the mood of the people and kept going until the end, when nobody believed in him,” then, as he added a smile he said, “Except for you and me.” He also said that Trump’s call for America’s nuclear arsenal to be boosted was perfectly normal.
Earlier in the week Trump sent out this tweet, “The United States must greatly strengthen and expand its nuclear capability until such time as the world comes to its senses regarding nukes.” Putin was surprised by the fuss Trump’s tweet had caused and how it had been linked to his own statements about Russia’s plans to modernize its own nuclear arsenal. After being asked to clarify his comments, US TV network MSNBC reported that Trump said, “Let it be an arms race,” and that the United States would win it.
Putin’s news conference lasted for nearly four hours. He discussed many topics including Syria, Donald Trump, the United States and many other subjects.
