Princess Diana’s Life with Prince Charles
Princess Diana’s original tapes were recorded for author Andrew Morton. They were recorded on the condition of secrecy. They later became the book, “Diana: Her True Story.” Princess Diana revealed how she first met Charles at the young age of 16. During this time he was dating her sister. When she was 19 the romance of Charles and the princess became more involved. It was during her 19th year that he proposed to her. The princess recorded that her struggle with bulimia started a week after she agreed to marry Charles. He grabbed her around the waist (which was 29 inches) and told her she was a “bit chubby.”
Princess Diana’s Waist Shrunk to ’23’ Inches
Princess Diana said, “The first time I was measured for my wedding dress, I was 29 inches around the waist. The day I got married, I was 23 and-a-half inches. I had shrunk into nothing from February to July.” This was the start of her Bulimia which lasted for year. She later recorded, “My wedding day, I think that was the worst day of my life.” She referred to Camilla Parker Bowles, who the Prince was still having an affair, and said, “If I could write my own script I would have my husband go away with his woman and never come back.”
Through the years Princess Diana explained how the public side was different from the private side. She said, “The public side, they wanted a fairy princess to come and touch them and everything will turn into gold and all their worries would be forgotten. Little did they realize that the individual was crucifying herself inside because she didn’t think she was good enough.”
The seven hours of recordings were secretly made in Kensington Palace in 1991 during a series of interviews conducted through an intermediary. In the tapes the princess talks openly about her life prior to marrying Prince Charles, her long battle with bulimia, her suicide attempts, the heartache over her husband’s long affair with Bowles and her strained relations with other members of the Royal family. She also told of her horror at Charles’s decision to give Bowles a bracelet just two days before their wedding. She said, “I was devastated.”
Years later the Prince and the Princess divorced. Years after this Princess Diana was killed in a horrific car accident. In the following year the Prince and Bowles became husband and wife.
