Immediate Deportation Faces Two to Three Million Undocumented Immigrants
One of President-elect Donald Trump’s major campaign promises was to deport millions of undocumented immigrants. In an interview for 60 Minutes Trump said, “What we are going to do is get the people that are criminal and have criminal records, gang members, drug dealers, where a lot of these people, probably two million, it could be even three million.” He said we are getting them out of our country emphasizing they are here illegally.
Once the border is secure, after the wall and/or fence has been built, immigration officials will begin to make a determination about the remaining undocumented immigrants in the United States, according to Trump. He said they are talking about terrific people He said, “They’re terrific people but we are gonna make a determination at that. But before we make that determination…it’s very important, we are going to secure our border.”
Trump said he will have a wall built along the U.S.-Mexico border. The reality of this wall being built has started to settle in with the Mexican government. They have publicly reminded the president-elect that Mexico will not pay for the wall. The Mexico’s foreign minister, Claudia Ruiz Massieu said, “We are in the business of eliminating barriers. That’s why we would not consider paying for any wall that puts barriers between our integration and competitiveness.” During his campaign Trump repeatedly said the wall will be built at the expense of Mexico.
