The state of Guerrero, Mexico, which has a very high rate of violent crimes – more than 1800 murders from January to October of this year, is where 31 men and one woman’s body were found in the area of Zitlala. The discovery also found nine heads. Four of the heads had been stored inside a cooler. The remains were found in mass graves found in 17 different pits.
Yesterday the remains were discovered. No arrests have been made so far. A security spokesperson said, “The discoveries are terrible.” He said the search continues in the area for any additional hidden graves. Roberto Alvarez, a state security spokesman said the graves had been discovered following an anonymous tip, which led to the discovery of a kidnap victim.
Earlier in the week residents in the town of Tixtla found nine decapitated bodies. Investigations are being made to see if any of these remains match the heads discovered yesterday.
The remains have been sent to the state capital to be identified.
