Manny Pacquiao to Take on Amir Khan
Manny Pacquiao, Philippine senator and admired fighter, will meet his former sparring partner and British lightweight Olympic champion Amir Khan. The April 23rd fight will most likely be held in either Abu Dhabi or Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. The fight has been labeled as the “super fight.” Both fighters are well aware of each others capabilities since they were both trained together by Freddie Roach.
In the middle of last month Pacquiao asked his Twitter followers who they felt he should fight next in the UAE. Khan was the favorite with 48% of the votes. Kell Brook came in second with 24% of the votes. There were 44,815 votes cast.
Manny Pacquiao and Khan Both Had Fights Last Year
Last year Pacquiao had two victories. He defeated Timothy Bradley in April followed by a win against Jessie Vargas in November. Khan lost his last fight to Saul “Canelo” Alvarez who knocked him out with a major blow.
It was originally thought that the 38-year-old Pacquiao would meet with Jeff Horn in his next bout. However, Horn isn’t a big name; therefore his team decided they will get a better deal for a showdown in the Middle East with Khan. Khan, 30, is a big name who can draw a large number of international and casual fans.
