‘La La Land’ Receives 14 Oscar Nominations
‘La La Land’ was honored today with 14 Oscar nominations. The leading nomination of the 89th Academy Awards, starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. both nabbed nominations for their leading roles in the film. Damien Chazelle, the director, was nominated in the directing category. Original score and original song categories both earned nods for the musical, which takes place in Los Angeles.
‘La La Land’ Ties for Most Nominations Ever
Only two other movies, “All About Eve” a 1950 film starring Bette Davis, and “Titanic” a 1957 epic romance-disaster, have received a total of 14 Oscar nominations. The movies, “Arrival” a sci-fi thriller starring Jeremy Renner and Amy Adams, and “Moonlight,” a drama set in Miami, each received eight nominations. These two films were followed, with six nominations for “Lion” and “Manchester by the Sea.” Another popular film, “Fences,” received four nominations.
The Oscars marked Meryl Streep’s 20th nomination.
Nominations for Best Picture go to the following movies: “Arrival,” “Fences,” “Hacksaw Ridge,” “Hell or High Water,” “Hidden Figures,” “La La Land,” “Lion,” “Manchester by the Sea,” and “Moonlight.”
The Oscar presentations will be made on Sunday, Feb 26 at the annual award ceremony. This years host will be Jimmy Kimmel.
