Ivanka Trump Takes Seat at Group of 20 Meeting
Ivanka Trump sits in for her father, President Trump while he stepped away for one-on-one discussions with other world leaders. The 35-year-old sat between Chinese President Xi Jinping and British Prime Minister Theresa May. The president’s daughter had been in the back of the room. She briefly joined the president’s table when he stepped out. Ivanka, who has the title of assistant to the president and an office in the West Wing of the White House, serves as an unpaid adviser to her father.
Some Questioned if Ivanka was a Good Choice
Some people questioned the decision to place Ivanka at the table. They suggested this stepped over the boundaries of family and official business. The president is often criticized for his families involvement. Other world leaders would find it unusual to have their children or other family members “sit in” for them. Others questions why the president’s wife, Ivanka Trump, did not take the seat.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the host leader of the G20 Hamburg, said it’s up to the individual nations who represents them.”The delegations themselves decide, should the president not be present for a meeting, who will then take over and sit in the chair, Merkel said at a later news conference.
Ivanka, earlier in the day, took part in a World Bank event on a fund for women entrepreneurs. she is actively involved in this event. “I’m very proud of my daughter Ivanka, always have been from day one. I have to tell you that, from day one, if she weren’t my daughter It’d be so much easier for her. It might be the only bad thing she has going on, if you want to know the truth,” the president said about Ivanka.
