Human Rights Day, December 10
Human Rights Day, December 10 is observed by the international community every year. In 1948 the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
It Has Inspired More Than 60 Human Rights Instruments
Although this is not a binding document, it has inspired more than 60 human rights instruments. Together the rights constitute an international standard of human rights. Through the years these have blended into an international standard of human rights. Today the United Nations Member States agree on the basic Human Rights laid down in the Declaration. This makes it even stronger and emphasizes the relevance of Human Rights in our daily lives.
Human Rights Day 70th Anniversary
Next year, December 10, 2018, Human Rights Day will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This Sunday marks the beginning of a year-long 70th anniversary commemoration. If you are interested in learning more about the special celebration, please visit: http://www.standup4humanrights.org/
Human Rights Day can be celebrated in a number of ways. You might consider starting a Facebook campaign. You can use your creativity to determine what you want on your page. You can also encourage your friends to change their profile pictures to an individualized Human Rights Day banner.
Another event you might plan is a candlelight vigil or other commemorative event. Human rights are serious business. Consider holding a vigil to commemorate those who have suffered human rights abuses and those whose human rights are still violated.
