As we have heard many times, bodies need to have plenty of fruit and vegetables. The diet should also include whole grains. You should learn which fats are healthy and those which are not. One of the worst culprits is fast food outlets. So this means you need to stay away from the french fries, the double hamburger patties loaded with grease, and similar foods. This is one way to really clog the arteries. The medical profession says that once in a while, you are entitled to splurge and have a small portion of your favorite food.

Smoking

Let’s face it; it’s a proven fact that smoking causes cancer, emphysema, and strokes. It also has a strong, negative impact on cardiovascular health. Not only will you save money when you quit smoking, more importantly, but you will also become a healthier person. 

Alcohol

Excessive drinking is not good for your heart. This can result in causing your blood pressure to rise. If you choose to drink regularly you will hopefully choose a small quantity of liquor to consume.

Cholesterol

It is important to have your cholesterol checked regularly. When you reach a high level of cholesterol, this can mean your arteries are starting to clog. This can lead to a heart attack or heart disease. 

Relax

Stress has a significant effect on the heart. It can be all-consuming mentally. It’s easier said than done, but it is important to avoid stress. You need to find ways you can relax. This might be going for a leisurely walk, reading a book, watching your favorite TV program, or just taking a nap.

Laughing

For years you have probably heard the saying, “laughter is the best medicine.” Studies have found that laughing can reduce the risk of heart disease. It lowers the levels of stress and leaves you in a more relaxed state. 

Exercising

This is one of the best ways to keep your heart healthy. If you despise working out, then try taking a brisk walk in your neighborhood. If you join a friend on your walk, it will make it even more pleasant. You can also get on your bike and go for a nice ride. Jumping in the pool and swimming around also offers great benefits. The fact is that any exercise is good.

Weight

Keeping your weight under control is key to a healthy heart. Try to stay within a given range. If you gain a few pounds, then you know you need to shed them to get down to your given range. Excess weight causes a great strain on your heart.
