Healthcare Bill is Still in the Wings!
Healthcare bill is still at the top of the Republicans wishlist. And, they’d like to make their wishlist come true before President Donald Trump completes his first 100 days in office on Saturday. According to House Speaker Paul Ryan the House Republicans are making headway in efforts to build support for the reworked legislation which is intended to overhaul the US healthcare system. Ryan is more confident after learning a group of hard-right Republican conservatives are showing some support for the revised bill. This is the same group of Republicans who helped to bomb the original version just one month ago. Ryan said, “We’re going to go when we have the votes.”
Healthcare Bill and the Short-Term Government Funding Bill
House Democrats threatened to oppose a short-term government funding bill if the Republicans try to bring the healthcare bill to the floor this week. However, Ryan brushed off this threat, even though Republicans are expected to need some Democratic votes to pass the funding bill. The funding bill needs to be passed by midnight on Friday.
Nancy Pelosi, House Democratic Leaders, told reporters that Trump was making Republicans “walk the plank” on a healthcare bill that was “wildly unpopular.”
Citizens of the US are looking at a number of issues our government and our country faces at this point in time. The country must receive a funding bill in order to continue operating. The healthcare bill is up for making or breaking. The US-Mexican wall now appears to be on hold. We wait for Kim Jong-un to make his next move. We wait to see what President Trump has up his sleeve to make his first 100 days in office look more appealing than his one, major accomplishment, appointing a judge to the Supreme Court.
