Happy Mother’s Day
Happy Mother’s Day to every mother in the world. This is a celebration to honor that special mom. It is also intended to honor motherhood, maternal bonds, as well as the influence of mothers in society. Mother’s Day, as we know it today, was first celebrated in 1908. During that time Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother in Grafton, West Virginia. Her campaign was to make this special day a recognized holiday in the US started in 1905. That was the year that Jarvis’ mother died. Jarvis wanted to set aside a day to honor all mothers because she believed that they were “the person who has done more for you than anyone in the world.”
Mother’s Day Celebration
In the US this special day is held annually on the second Sunday of May. Often family members and friends give their favorite person gifts, cards, flowers, candy, or dining out at a restaurant.
Mother’s Day has become a special day that focuses on recognizing mothers’ and mother figure roles. Mother’s Day often helps people to think about their mother in a deeper way. For example, Abraham Lincoln said, “All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother.” Singer Alicia Keys said, “My mom is definitely my rock.” Actor Leonardo DiCaprio said, “My mother is a walking miracle.”
Do something special on Sunday for your favorite woman. Whatever you do, she will remember the day throughout the year.
