George Michael was Popular Around the World
George Michael, the British heart-throb became a star in the 1980’s as a part of the group “Wham!” He later gained critical acclaim as a solo artist. The artist sold more than 100 million albums throughout his career which was derailed for half a decade due to legal battles with his label. He also became involved with various actual and alleged public sexuality activities, and, during the past decade, a series of drug busts. The sexual incident resulted in Michael’s coming out as gay. However, the singer could have been considered somewhat defiant when he told Time Out, in a 2007 story, “I am gay, I smoke week and I do exactly what I want in my life because of my talent.”
Tributes to the singer started pouring in after the announcement of his death. One was from singer Elton John who wrote, “I am in deep shock. I have lost a beloved friend – the kindest, most generous soul and a brilliant artist. My heart goes out to his family and all of his friends.”
His fans are lighting candles as they place their floral tributes, teddy bears, and other remembrances outside his home.
