Fourteen-Year-Old Model Dies from Exhaustion
Fourteen-year old model, Vlada Dzyuba collapsed after a grueling 12-hour fashion show in Shanghai. After suffering from “utter exhaustion” following a three month modeling assignment in China she went into a coma. She never regained consciousness and died two days later. She was found to be suffering from chronic meningitis.
Officially She Could Work Three Hours Per Week
It is believed that the young teen was on a “slave labor” contract. Due to this she was apparently too afraid to seek medical treatment. Officially she was allowed to work a total of three hours a week.
Moscow is preparing to demand an explanation over the conditions Vlada was living in during her time working in Asia. Her death has raised concerns about working conditions for the models and how they can be exploited.
Her mother, Oksana, said, “She was calling me, saying ‘Mama, I am so tired. I so much want to sleep.'” Her mother begged her to seek medical attention. She had also been trying to get a visa to fly out to be with her daughter before she passed away.
The young teen worked for the Perm modeling agency. A spokesperson for the company said, “No one expected it to lead to such consequences. We are now reaping what we have sown. The spokesperson admitted not checking Vlada’s contract and if she had proper medical insurance.
Pavel Mikov, a Kremlin human rights ombudsman, has taken on the investigation into her death.
