Fire Kills Brother and Sister
Fire kills brother and sister, Cristos Lopez, 10, and Isabella Lopez, 7, early Saturday morning in San Diego. Their father, Henry Lopez, 37, is expected to live. Police reported that firefighters broke through the front door, went upstairs, and found the brother, sister, and their father. The three victims were taken to hospitals. The children were declared dead while their father was admitted to the hospital in serious condition.
Children Attended a Halloween Party
Cristos and Isabella attended a Halloween party on Friday. This was the last time students from Sunset Hills Elementary School had the chance to see the popular youngsters. Cristos was dressed as the grim reaper. His sister dressed as “Monster High” character Frankie Stein.
Grief counselors will be at the school today as the students and staff mourn the deaths of the two children. Sam Trink, one of the parents with children attending the school, couldn’t believe two of her son’s friends from school were killed in an overnight fire. She said, “It is horrible. They were just great kids, very well liked. My son is best best friends with their son.”
The parents were reportedly in the middle of a divorce. It was reported that the children stay with their father on weekends. Their mother lives elsewhere and received the news shortly after the horrific fire.
Arson and homicide investigators ended their investigation on-scene. So far they haven’t released a cause, but stressed it might be accidental.
