Baby Wrapped in Plastic Bag Survives
Baby wrapped in plastic bag survives for three days. The baby was found outside an upstate New York home after the baby had been abandoned. The mother has been charged with attempted murder.
Neighbors found the baby whose feet were sticking out of the bag. They called 911 and watched over the young girl until police and emergency crews arrived. The child was taken to an area hospital where she was reported in stable condition.
The police charged Harriette Hoyt with attempted murder yesterday. The young mother is from Sayre, Pennsylvania located on the New York border about 20 miles southeast of Elmira. Court records indicated Hoyt left her daughter near bushes in a backyard. After hearing odd noises sisters Kayla and Karen Seals discovered the child.
Karen told TV station WENY, “My sister came out off the porch and went to the side to the backyard of my neighbor’s house with a stick, thinking it was a dog.” As Kayla approached, she realized the object on the ground was a baby in the plastic bag. “Her legs were just dangling in the bag, her head was in the bag, her whole head was covered all the way down the girl explained.
Elmira Police Sgt. William Solt said, “They are truly heroes in this incident.”
