A Malaysian official claimed the man was sprayed with a liquid in a shopping area. The man complained of pain and then tried to get help at an information counter before being taken to the airport clinic. It was reported by the country’s police the 45-year-old Nam was to catch a flight to Macau. Instead, he was found ill at the airport and died on his way to the hospital. The cause of death is being investigated by officers.
Nam’s held a passport under the name Kim Chol. He is the son of Song Hye-Rim. She was a South Korean-born actress who is believed to have been a mistress to former North Korean leader Kim Jong-ll. He was a known advocate of reform in North Korea. He was vocal about his opposition to the nation’s dynastic succession policy. It was understood that he was Kim Jong-ll’s heir apparent being his eldest son. However, he was overlooked for the succession after a botched attempt to enter Japan in May 2001 on a false Dominican Republic passport. He claimed he wanted to go to Disney’s Tokyo resort. The incident embarrassed his father, and was succeeded instead by Kim Jong-un.
In December 2013 the current leader’s uncle was labeled as a “traitor” and killed by machine gun fire for “attempting to overthrow the state by all sorts of intrigues and despicable methods.” He was once considered the second most powerful official in North Korea.
Other members of the leader’s family have also been found murdered. It seems like an ongoing way of getting rid of certain people.
